1. Vacuum frequently, at least several times a week. There's no such thing as vacuuming too much, and don't let dirt accumulate because it can be sharp and fray the rug.
2. Blot (don't rub!) spills immediately, so they don't stain and set.
3. Use suitable window coverings. This is even more important if your room is hot and sunny with southern exposure. Window treatments block the sun's harmful UV Rays that can cause fading and even slight color changes. In addition, most window treatments can now be motorized so that you can control them from anywhere, even outside the home, during the sun's peak hours.
4. Get professional deep cleaning every 12-18 months, as it removes dust mites, allergens, and bacteria that may be trapped into the fibers where vacuuming can't reach. Every stain and fiber is different; professional cleaners will know precisely what to use and how much instead of just using one of those "one-size-fits-all cleaners" that can harm the rug.
5. Move furniture periodically. Foot traffic and heavy furniture legs create wear patterns, and the best way to avoid this is by moving items around.
